    These were taken with a canon eos 300 & 75-300 canon/is zoom lens.

    ah. right. I'm about to invest in a Nikon D50.
    By the way, isn't this the spot where you can get down from the vehicle for a short break? you're fortunate to have gone to Wilpattu at a less-dry period of the year, with the water level so high. I have an identical picture with absolutely no water near these trees....with the villu shore beginning far away...Didn't stop us from spotting 4 crocodiles tho!
